Abstract

Aiming to contribute to the field of studies on conservative thought in Brazil and its dialogues with religious groups, this research, based on the works of Karl Mannheim and Norbert Elias, argues that there is a broad process of conservative thought that develops historically and is intertwined with the socio-political and cultural elements of the country, from which currents of thought derive and with which religious civil groups engage, including those involved with the journal Catolicismo. A bibliographical review was carried out, focusing on the period of Brazilian political openness, verifying possible relationships between the political transition, the permanence of military groups, and the maintenance and preservation of currents of thought derived from them, by religious civil groups involved in the dissemination of content. Through documentary research in electronic media to analyze publications related to the journal Catolicismo, it was observed that these groups seek legitimacy for their expressions through the dissemination of content that links three elements: a worldview of "being Christian," the duty to fight communism, and the participation/contribution of political groups in this process. In this sense, the period of re-democratization was understood as part of a context that contributed to the continuity of dialogues between religious groups and conservative currents of thought derived from political groups.
