The political scenario in Brazil at the beginning of the 1960s and at the end of the 2010s, although separated by a large time span, presents some similarities in the political and religious framework, especially in the link between segments of the Christian religion and the far-right. Based on this, our main objective is to examine the adherence of Catholics to the Brazilian civil-military coup in 1964 and the connection of neo-Pentecostal evangelicals to Bolsonarism, particularly with the advent of the 2018 election. Methodologically, this is a qualitative research in a comparative perspective, in which we will conduct the historical reconstruction of the periods and a bibliographic review, engaging with the main research sources on the topic. As a result, we observed a strong relationship between religion and politics, with faith being mobilized as a political tool and in defense of values, especially those represented by patriotic nationalism in opposition to the narrative of communism and the controversial agenda on morals.
