Abstract

The book of Psalms has enchanted Jewish and Christian readers throughout the centuries. Although it is a collection of texts from the Jewish people, the impact of the Psalter on Christianity is evident from the numerous citations of the Psalms in the text of the New Testament, as well as in the liturgy and prayers of Christian communities. The Psalms survive strongly in liturgies, meditations, and individual prayers. As texts that carry a unique spiritual proposal, the use of the Psalms transcends religious and confessional boundaries. This text turns its attention to Dietrich Bonhoeffer's perception of the Psalms. It highlights Bonhoeffer's observations about the Psalter and his interpretation of some Psalms. This is a bibliographic review work. It analyzes Bonhoeffer's writings on the subject and defends the thesis that, to understand Bonhoeffer and his martyrdom, it is necessary to understand the role of the Psalms and prayer in his life.
