THE FORMATION OF FREEMASONRY AND ITS BOURGEOIS FORM OF SOCIABILITY

Abstract

This work´s objective is to debate the origins, development and concept of Freemasonry from the sociability relationship established among its members. At first it is intended to outline the origins of Freemasonry, the myths and truths surrounding the institution and some aspectas of the academic research on the subject. Secoundly, we present the transition between the period of “operative” to “speculative” Freemasonry to, finally, establish the relationship between bourgeois sociability and Freemasonry, in order to demonstrate that the institution has fixed social relations based on articulated social position.
