Abstract

Christopher Rowland was born in Doncaster, an industrial city in the north of England. He studied at Cambridge University where he did his doctorate on the influence of early Jewish mysticism on the New Testament. He has taught at the Universities of Newcastle upon Tyne, Cambridge & Oxford. His writing has been mainly the nature & history of apocalypticism, especially the Book of Revelation. His visits to Brazil over the years introduced him to liberation theology & led to his research & writing on Christian radicalism . He was editor of The Cambridge Companion to Liberation Theology (1999) and, among his other works, The Open Heavens (1982), Radical Christianity (1998) and Radical Prophet (2017) stand out. He is married and have four children.

This interview was conducted by videoconference on August 10, 2022, focusing on the possibilities of analyzing the political perspective of the Apocalypse, as well as the relationship between the book and the concept of political theology. It will be presented in two languages, first the original, and then the tradition into Portuguese.
