Abstract

This paper had its origins in the application of the Law 10639/03, which altered articles of the Law 9394/96. Since 2008 there has been an attempt to fulfill such Law in the subject of Philosophy, taught in the technical high school courses at IFSul. This practice went beyond the formal teaching system, with technical visits to the Black communities in Arroio do Padre, Canguçu and Pelotas. From these visits the following research problem emerged: what is the evident cultural heritage in the Quilombos researched? In order to find the answers, the following objectives were established: recognize evidence of the culture in the Quilombos researched and identify the cultural heritage in those communities. The ethnographic and bibliographic methodology was based on Canclini (1997; 2003) and Stein, E. (2003) and aimed at the observation of phenomena and at the collection of data from interviews conducted by the students during the technical visits to the referred Quilombos. The subjects of the research, chosen intentionally and formed by focal groups, made up the sample of 10 participants per community researched. The results correlated to the objectives of the study and in the students’ presentations they emphasized the land as said to be the cultural patrimony.
