Tillich’s Kairos and its Trajectory

The author remember, first of all, the history of the concept of Kairos in Tillich’s thought, since the “ Kairos Circle “ of religious Socialists in Berlin, until its retelling in the Systematic Theology. Then it searches show how churches have tried to update the concept, to apply it to various political situations: the pursuit of peace at the end of the Vietnam war (1980), the fight to end Apartheid in South Africa (1986), the liberation movement in Central America (1988), the critique of neoliberalism in Europe (1989) and the liberation of Palestine (2009), showing always relations to the thought of Paul Tillich.
