Abstract

This reflection problematizes the ritual of the santo daime ritual based on the discussions raised around gender relations and the recognition of this religious expression as cultural heritage. The objective is to understand the santo daime ritual from the categories of gender and cultural heritage in a complex perspective of socio-anthropological studies. The theoretical framework is composed of the production of the aforementioned authors Edward Macrae (1992); Sandra Goulart (1996); Beatriz Caiuby Labate and Gustavo Pacheco (2005); Theresa Jaynna de Sousa Feijão (2018), Joan Scott (1994); Judith Butler (2010); Cecília Granjeiro Martin (2016); Francisca Verônica Cavalcante (2022), among others. The research uses the qualitative and ethnographic method with research techniques composed of bibliographical survey and field research, anchored in the production of authors Bronislaw Malinoswsky (1984) and C. Geertz (2015). The study points out, with regard to the gender category, the non-reproduction of a patriarchal, macho and sexist vision, but rather a holistic worldview and balance between feminine and masculine and, with regard to the cultural heritage category, the expressions and manifestations of the santo daime religion were recognized as intangible cultural heritage of Rio Branco and the State of Acre by IPHAN, with the feitio ritual being well inventoried in the category “Offices and Ways of doing it”.
