INDIGENOUS COSMOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM
UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF MYTHS FOR THE WAJÃPI PEOPLE OF AMAPÁ

This study highlights indigenous cosmology and the role of mythology for the Wajãpi indigenous people of Amapá. In this way, the myths in indigenous societies, their perceptions of the world and how they interfere in the daily lives of these ethnic groups are addressed. In particular, the myths of the Wajãpi are highlighted and how the philosophical elements of their cosmology are associated with their daily lives and their religiosity, in addition to exploring aspects of the history of these individuals, their origins, their lands, the strengthening of their way of being and their forms of Well-Being. The aim was also to recognize the relevance of using indigenous mythologies in History Teaching, which are still little known inside and outside the school environment and should be recognized and valued as an important element of the culture of the Wajãpi people.
