Abstract

The following text presents and discusses some theoretical and ethnographic data about the category "territory", which acquires centrality in relation to the marron self-identification of Comunidade Negra Rural Cerro das Velhas. In this sense, from the ethnographic method, developed some elements of this process, as the slave ancestry, the strategies of territorialization, the bonds of reciprocity and the importance of the Associação Quilombola Cerro das Velhas in the process of ethnic self-ascription of this group of African descent. Thus, it is emphasized that "maroon" is a concept foreign to the community which will be incorporated gradually into your everyday reality and the process of marron self-identification is in constant process of development, permeated by movements and fluidity.
