Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the historiography of the occupation of the Society of Jesus in the Colonial Amazon of the eighteenth century, recovering an important part of the researches that have tried to understand the formation of this Catholic Order. Our objective is to systematically point out the methodological strategies, the documentary sources and the theoretical references that guided the researchers whose thematic delimitation was the Jesuits's actions in the Amazon. In order to reach this objective, this work intends to develop, at first, a bibliographical survey about the formation of the Society of Jesus in the process of colonization of Lusitanian America and, in a second part, a historiographic analysis of the Jesuits in the Amazon of the XVIII century.
