DAMBE AS A CORPORAL PRACTICE OF AFRICAN FIGHT

A STATE OF THE ART OF SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES

Abstract

The aim of this study is to construct a state of the art of academic publications on the African fight Dambe. The process of selecting the corpus, with no time frame, resulted in nine scientific articles published between 2010 and 2022. The following databases were used: SciELO, Lilacs, Portal de Periódicos da Capes and Google Scholar. The thematic analysis resulted in the construction of two categories: (i) approximation between the Dambe and religious elements and (ii) socio-cultural aspects of the Dambe. The results indicated little academic production, possibly related to stigmas and prejudices towards African fights, silenced by coercive power relations. In addition, they showed processes of re-signification of the Dambe in the direction of sporting rationality. Finally, it is worth noting that few studies have discussed the violence inflicted on African people, which seems to be a significant element in the low visibility of their bodily practices.
