Abstract

The issue of racism is present in many everyday situations, but little recognized under concrete actions. The joke, commonly used to mask racism, is also present in the classroom in the approaches between students and may be seen, in certain cases, as just an exercise in humor, but carries in its content offenses and deep roots of degradation, exploitation and subjection of people of African descent. In this sense, the case report seeks to show how the study of local African roots can provide an approximation between knowledge and overcoming actions based on racism. Religiousness can be a starting point that envisages valuing and recognizing the present knowledge in the classroom and demystifying demonizations used to disqualify the other.
