Keywords:

The paper attempts to problematize, through relevant bibliography and printed sources, the social tensions faced by Afro-descendants in the period immediately after Brazil's post-abolition until the end of the 1970s. In these contexts, the protagonism of social organizations and individuals black the were fundamental to the claim of their rights and to the affirmation of their previously stigmatized identities. It should be emphasized that education and knowledge production were considered by the main leaders of these movements as the main tools for the cultural, social and political insertion of the populations represented.
