Abstract

The present text analyzes the representations of black woman in comics published in the U.S., Through adventure and humor comics, we try to identity the evolution of female characters, starting from the work of Jackie Ormes, black journalist who published comics between 1937 and 1954 and is considered the first black woman to publish comics.

Mestranda em História na Universidade Salgado de Oliveira. Especialista em História do Brasil pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (MG). Graduada em História pela FAFIC/Cataguases. Membro da Academia Leopoldinense de Letras e Artes de Leopoldina (MG). Professora da Educação Básica.
